Interplanetary Dust Particles: Organic Matter Studied by Raman Spectroscopy and Laser Induced Fluorescence
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction: We are developping a micromanipulation line and a spectroscopic method for providing chemical imagery data on Organic Matter (OM) trapped in micrometric grains (Interplanetary Dust Particles, matrix grains extracted from pristine chondrites, STARDUST samples, etc.) The general framwork of our approach is based on the complementarity of Multi Wavelength Raman spectroscopy (including the 244 nm UV excitation), and of Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF). We report in this abstract preliminary results obtained on 5 IDPs, which were studied in situ in silicon oil prior extraction. The study will be extended to 15 other IDPs.

A Raman spectroscopic study of organic matter in interplanetary dust particles and meteorites using multiple wavelength laser excitation
Raman spectroscopy was used to investigate insoluble organic matter (IOM) from a range of chondritic meteorites, and a suite of interplanetary dust particles (IDPs). Three monochromatic excitation wavelengths (473 nm, 514 nm, 632 nm) were applied sequentially to assess variations in meteorite and IDP Raman peak parameters (carbon D and G bands) as a function of excitation wavelength (i.e., disp...

Introduction: In April 2003, NASA flew stratospheric dust collectors to coincide with the expected passage of the Earth through the dust trail of comet Grigg-Skjellerup. Whether any Grigg-Skjellerup particles were collected (along with “normal” Interplanetary Dust Particles or IDPs) and how such would be recognized is still uncertain, though there is evidence for unusual noble gases in some of ...

Introduction: Interplanetary dust particles (IDPs) collected from the Earth's stratosphere generally contain percent-level concentrations of organic matter [1]. This organic matter in IDPs is important for several reasons: 1) some IDPs contain interstellar organic matter, identified by high D/H or

Micrometeorites are one of the most common types of extraterrestrial material that fall to the Earth, beside meteorites and interplanetary dust particles (IDPs). All of these materials are known to contain presolar grains that, when studied in the laboratory, provide information about the origin of the solar system and help to constrain models of nucleosynthesis in stars. Recent studies of micr...
متن کاملInterstellar chemistry recorded in organic matter from primitive meteorites.
Organic matter in extraterrestrial materials has isotopic anomalies in hydrogen and nitrogen that suggest an origin in the presolar molecular cloud or perhaps in the protoplanetary disk. Interplanetary dust particles are generally regarded as the most primitive solar system matter available, in part because until recently they exhibited the most extreme isotope anomalies. However, we show that ...
